Carnaval 2026: Intendant Magellan will have 74 parades over six days of fun

Road that cuts the Rio suburb will receive schools that dispute access to Sapucaí.

Known as “Samba’s Popular Passarela”, the Carnaval of Intendente Magalhães is the place where the associations of the Silver series, Bronze and Evaluation Group pass, in addition to Group 1 of the Bloc Federations. In 2026, the avenue again receives several samba schools from different regions of the state, which promise great disputes in days of great emotion, stories, characters and sense of community.

Organized by Superliga RJ in partnership with Riotur, the Carnaval will have its programming started on Saturday (14), from 20h, with the parades of Group 1 of the Federation of Carnival Blocks. This day will bring together the group of plot blocks that compete vacancy in the Evaluation Group. The Silver Series parades take place on Sunday (15) and Monday (16), starting at 18h, with the schools that compete to climb the Gold Series. The Evaluation Group will parade on Tuesday (17), and the Bronze Series enters the avenue on Friday (20) and on Saturday (21) after the official Carnaval.

Over there, schools and blocks are concentrated, which each year compete for access sites in search of a place in the elite of the Carnaval of Rio. Over time, the Intendente has also consolidated itself as a space for the revelation of composers, passists, carnivals and professionals who move the entire productive chain of folia. In addition, the site strengthens the direct link between schools and their territories, preserving traditions and stimulating the collective sense that marks samba schools.

Located about 19 kilometers from the City Center, Intendente Magalhães cuts through the neighborhoods of Campinho, Oswaldo Cruz, Madureira, Cascadura, Bento Ribeiro and Vila Valqueire. The route was part of the old Royal Road of Santa Cruz. Its history points to the expansion of Rio, besides reflecting on the cultural relations of the Rio people and their realities. The Intendente parades are free and guarantee a great option for those seeking to live a more root and traditional version of Carnaval in Rio.
