Big blocks mark the weekend at the Carnaval of Rua do Rio

The Carnaval de Rua will cross another weekend marked by the diversity of languages, the strength of Brazilian music and the democratic occupation of public space. Between the mass spectacle of the Anitta Block, the political delicacy of Chico Women and the closure conducted by Monobloco, the city will offer experiences that dialogue with different audiences and reaffirm the carnaval as a territory of cultural expression, memory and collective celebration.

In the Center, the Anitta Block will once again turn First of March Street into a large open stage. The megablock, which consolidated as one of the largest in the country, must drag hundreds of thousands of revelers into a parade marked by energy, constant interaction and a soundtrack that mixes pop, funk, axé and typical carnival rhythms. Successes such as Show of Powers, Vai Malandra, Engage and Movement of Sanfoninha will win accelerated and thought-out versions for the street, creating a great collective choir throughout the course, as well as special appearances in the trio and the presence of artists and personalities that reinforce the performance character of the procession.

In the Leme, Chico's Women will take to the streets a sensitive and powerful parade, which celebrates Chico Buarque's work from a female perspective. Created to revere the voices and characters of the composer's songs, the block will gather a diverse audience into a procession that transforms sambas, marchinhas and ballads into a manifesto of affection, resistance and poetry. With coral arrangements, theme costumes and a collective conduct that values singing in unison, the parade will create an atmosphere of communion and affective memory, reaffirming the carnaval of street as a space of freedom, representativeness and construction of plural narratives.

Closing the weekend, the Monobloco will again occupy the Centre on Sunday, closing the official megablock calendar with a procession that must gather thousands of revelers on March First Street. Created in 2000 from a percussion workshop, the group consolidated as a reference in the renovation of street blocks and will again take to the streets a battery with over a hundred rhythmists, as well as dancers and guests. The repertoire, which mixes samba, marchinhas, MPB and national pop in versions designed for the street, promises to connect different generations in another great collective meeting, reaffirming the Monobloco as one of the main symbols of the Carnaval Street of the city.
