The year 2026 hasn't even arrived, but it already promises to be generous with those who like to travel. With several national holidays falling on Mondays and Fridays, the next calendar should be one of the most favorable for domestic tourism. And Rio, always among the most sought-after destinations in the country, has everything to be one of the great beneficiaries.
In all, Brazil will have ten national holidays in 2026, in addition to optional points. Dates are: January 1st New Year, Thursday), 3 April (Good Friday), 21 April (Tiradentes, Tuesday), 1 May (Labor Day, Friday), 7 September (Independence of Brazil, Monday), 12 October (Our Lady Aparecida, Monday), 2 November (Finished Monday), 15 November (Proclamation of the Republic, Sunday), 20 November (Black Consciousness Day, Friday) and December 25 (Christmas, Friday).
The year still includes the Carnaval on 16 and 17 February (Monday and Tuesday of folia), beyond Saint George's Day, on 23 April (Thursday), and Corpus Christi, on June 4 (Thursday) — both traditionally considered holidays in Rio.
With extended holidays well distributed throughout the year, the expectation is of intense movement in the hotel, transport and the main tourist spots of the city. The combination of breaks on Mondays and Fridays favors the planning of small trips and short stays, especially between autumn and spring.
With so many free days ahead, 2026 promises to be a perfect year to live the best in Rio - from January to December.
