Victor or Victoria at the Teatro Claro More

The musical “Victor or Victoria” returns to Brazilian stages in a new version directed by Charles Möeller and Claudio Botelho. The play is on display at the Teatro Claro Mais, in Copacabana. The assembly brings together known names of the national musical theater, such as Miguel Falabella, Alessandra Verney, Maria Clara Gueiros and Junno Andrade. Verney takes the lead role, eternalized by Julie Andrews in film and Broadway.

Set in Paris of the 1930s, the story accompanies Victoria Grant, a struggling singer who finds an unusual way out to survive: to assume Victor's male identity. In disguise, she comes to present herself as a man who plays a woman on stage — a farce that leads her to success and triggers comical situations, while raising discussions about gender, freedom, and prejudice.

The show originates from the homonymous film directed by Blake Edwards, released in 1982, which received seven Oscar nominations and became a classic. The adaptation to the musical theater debuted in 1995 on Broadway, also starring Julie Andrews, and reached over 700 performances.
