TV Globo’s trajectory receives a tribute on stage with the musical “Magic Mirror”, which premieres in May at the Riachuelo Rio Theatre. The superproduction, which marks the celebrations for the 60 years of the station, brings together a cast of 32 artists and has text and direction of Gustavo Gasparani.
The plot follows Alfredo, played by Marcos Veras, an author in charge of creating a musical about the history of the station. Faced with the challenge, he receives the help of “Our Lady of the Eight”, lived by Eliane Giardini — a reference to the novelist Janete Clair, the central figure of teledramaturgia in the country.
Throughout the narrative, the characters embark on a journey that revisits icons of Brazilian television, such as Emilia and Viscount de Sabugosa, from Sítio do Picapau Yellow; Odorico Paraguaçu, from The Beloved; Sinhozinho Malta, from Roque Santeiro; and Tieta, from the homonymous novel. Figures of productions like The Great Family, Avenida Brasil and Sai de Baixo. Personalities such as Xuxa, Pedro Bial, Chacrinha and Roberto Carlos are also honored in the assembly.
Another highlight is the soundtrack, which brings together about 40 musical numbers with notable songs of soap operas and programs, such as “Brazil”, the theme of Vale Todo, as well as successes that went through decades and helped build the affective memory of the public.
With language inspired by the magazine theater, “Magic Mirror” combines humor, music and dramaturgy to revisit the recent history of the country from the perspective of television, reinforcing the cultural impact of the network over six decades.
