The actor Giuseppe Oristanio gives life to Guimarães Rosa in “Pomenor de Absência”, monologue who returns to Rio for a short season at the Vannucci Theatre, in the Shopping of Gávea, between November 3 and 25. The presentations take place under Ernesto Piccolo and text by Livia Baião.
The play depicts the last years of life of the author of Great Sertão: Veredas, in November 1967, when Rosa was preparing to take office at the Brazilian Academy of Letters, while facing health problems. The narrative, written in the first person, mixes biography, fiction and historiographic essay, revealing a character conscious of his genius, tormented by the idea of death and the search for literary immortality.
A result of a detailed study by Livia Baião, the text presents a restless and contradictory human Rose. Diplomat, polyglot and deep connoisseur of rural culture, he appears divided between reason and emotions, with acidic comments and reflections on life and art.
