Blocks exalt afrobrasilera roots in the Carnaval of Rua do Rio

The Carnaval of Rua do Rio is also a space for the preservation of memory, culture and Afro-Brazilian identity. In different regions of the city, the blocks lead to the streets rhythms, stories, spirituality and cultural manifestations that help to tell the path of the Black people in the formation of the Carnaval carioca and of the city itself.

In 2026, parades scattered through the Harbour Zone, Centre and North Zone reinforce this presence, celebrating antiquality, cultural resistance and diversity through music, dance and collective encounter.

A significant part of these blocks unfolds through the region known as Small Africa, in the Harbour Zone of the River - a historical area that shelter free black communities after the abolition and became the cradle of the samba, of the terreros and of important Afro-Brazilian cultural manifestations.
